CHALLENGE
After a difficult few years, Glen Street Theatre needed a refreshed and optimistic look and feel for their upcoming 2022 season. Something colourful, warm and fun to draw in a diverse audience.
SOLUTION
With this direction for the Glen St Theatre 2022 Season, we developed a design with a focus on large and bold typography, enhanced by a strong and retro colour palette. The varying text sizes in the hero artwork create a multitude of layers that neatly square off the layout at the edges, creating a lockup that is quirky and eye-catching while also being neat and functional. A subtle halftone texture of dots sits behind the typography acting as a spotlight, bringing focus to the 2022 season. We introduce this as a visual device into the internals of the seasonal programs which helps to frame and anchor pages.
The layout of the program internals and seasonal templates are very bold and adaptable. A clear hierarchical structure is established to accommodate a variety of imagery and content across a vast range of shows. The motif of circles used for images reinforces the theme of putting a spotlight on the season and its shows, creating a fun ‘razzle dazzle of showbiz’ experience.
The design allows for a series of changing colour palettes across each season’s quarters, and will continue to adopt a new palette with each new program to continually refresh Glen Street Theatre’s optimistic look and feel throughout the year.
