In 2019 Waverley Council, a local government in the eastern Sydney suburbs, commissioned Leading Hand to create a mural.
South Sydney High School had reduced its reliance on the electricity grid by installing solar panels, and the mural would celebrate the school now being ‘powered by sunshine’. Since then, we’ve worked with Waverley on several other EV- and solar-related projects, which we’ve found meaningful and rewarding.
The school mural was to be bright but sophisticated (and audience-appropriate!). We worked with the council and the school community to incorporate everyone’s feedback and evolve the initial concept before finalising the illustration and painting the mural. The result has been enduringly popular!
Next, in a joint initiative with Randwick and Woollahra councils, we branded new electric vehicle charging stations around the suburbs. The design concepts here were sleek, contemporary, clean and iconic, preparing for and encouraging the expected uptake of EVs in the area.
A more recent sustainability project was an animated video called ’12 Steps to Solar in Strata’ – a resource for Waverley’s solar energy initiatives in apartment buildings. With apartment dwellers often unsure how they can take up solar, the video breaks down the process into a sequence of steps.
Waverley Council is cementing its position as a progressive council and a leader in sustainability initiatives, and we have appreciated the chance to contribute to its efforts. We’re keen to support renewable energy–related projects that help to bring much-needed change for the benefit of local communities.
