Accommodating 1,000 primary students, Bella Vista Public School, in Sydney’s north-west, is a low-set, open space precinct featuring flexible spaces for a range of educational programs.
The school invited Leading Hand to create a suite of vibrant and meaningful graphics for the campus, inspired by its close connection to nearby sporting facilities.
We expanded the original concept to include not only sports, which engage the body, but also activities and hobbies that engage the mind. This inclusive theme was an important element of the overall design approach.
Located throughout the school, the designs consist of colourful graphic columns and decals on glazing, all of which continue the main feature piece: a 35-metre-long, vinyl-covered wall featuring a series of bespoke illustrations. The surfaces also serve as platforms for a variety of interactive games and puzzles that keep the students’ minds active. From word puzzles and maths games to themed trivia, there is something for every age group within the school.
Inclusively representing a wider variety of activities, the final artwork speaks to their importance in children’s lives and serves as a reminder that even in a digital age, there are lots of ways to engage the body and mind.
Meanwhile, the striking feature wall – both fresh and modern – delivers an added wow factor to a wide audience at the main entrance to the school.
