Australian National University

The Australian National University in Canberra is one of Australia’s most research-intensive universities.

Summary

ANU plays a significant role in medical research, particularly through the John Curtin School of Medical Research, whose researchers are known for tackling complex diseases and developing innovative solutions for health challenges. Our partnership with ANU began in 2022 with the branding for a new clinical hub, and since then we’ve partnered on visual identities for several scientific studies.

Our first job was to brand the Clinical Hub for Interventional Research – or ‘CHOIR’, to its friends – which aims to support the specialised functions involved in conducting high-quality clinical trials to international standards. Our design solution symbolised the combination of CHOIR’s various cohorts, partnerships research projects, clinical trials and new treatments.

CHOIR’s lead, Professor Mark Polizzotto, then asked us to brand another project that sought to help better ageing by restoring normal stem cell production. For MOSAIC, we suggested using the letter ‘O’ to illustrate the idea of cells and their variations, recreating a mosaic tile design in vibrant colours.

Later projects have included branding for Celestial, a CHOIR program focused on potential therapies for blood cancers, and for several new clinical trials.

Professor Polizzotto’s work has led the way to new therapy registrations, influenced treatment guidelines in Australia and internationally, and enabled new understandings of key viral malignancies and complications of HIV. Leading Hand has a strong portfolio of branding solutions for Australian medical centres of excellence, and we feel privileged to be involved with their progress.
