In 2018, Alexandria Park Community School, in inner south Sydney, asked us to create enormous graphics to revamp its temporary primary school premises.
school wanted the designs to complement those used in the adjacent high school but to be further developed to tell a more detailed story of Gadigal Country flora and fauna.
In collaboration with the school project team and TKD Architects, we developed 7 sets of original designs for installation along walls, on demountable buildings, down major corridors and in front of the school.
The designs created distinct zones, each distinguished by the vibrant colours of a specific landscape and rich visuals of animals and plants native to that environment – and to Gadigal Country:
A beautiful ‘Alexandria Park Community School is on Gadigal Land’ sign was displayed in several locations throughout the school and, magnificently, on a large billboard at the school entrance.
The large-scale graphics told a positive, proud and beautiful story about this school’s place in the community and the wider world.
Then-principal Diane Fetherston commented, ‘LOVE THEM – they look fantastic’, while staff said the graphics were the ‘best thing about the temporary school’.
In fact, because they loved them so much, we designed and printed a commemorative A3 poster, which the school used as prizes and gifts.
